2026-27 Coach Allocation Announcement

As Union FC Indy prepares for the 2026–27 season, we remain committed to delivering a high-quality, player-centered development environment for every athlete in our club. A key part of that commitment is thoughtfully allocating coaches across our teams to ensure players benefit from experienced leadership, consistent methodology, and a positive learning culture.

We have strategically assigned our coaching staff to ensure every team benefits from a balance of technical expertise and leadership that aligns with our long-term competitive pathway.

The following coach assignments for the 2026–27 season are designed to strengthen collaboration across age groups while continuing to build a unified club philosophy focused on player development, teamwork, and a lifelong love of the game.

Union FC Indy Age Group Change

Understanding U.S. Soccer’s New Age Group Reclassification: What Union FC Indy Families Need to Know

Starting with the 2026-27 season, US Youth Soccer and Indiana Soccer are shifting to a school year (Aug 1–July 31) age group structure. Initiated by major organizations like US Youth Soccer and US Club Soccer, this change aims to align team formation with academic grade levels, reducing "trapped player" issues and increasing participation, especially through the middle and

high school age groups.

As a member of US Youth Soccer and Indiana Soccer, Union FC Indy will be adopting this change at tryouts in June of 2026.

The new age group cohorts are as follows:

The age group change will see every single roster within the club change. Rosters from previous years will not impact roster creation in 2026-27.

Exceptions :

There are two exceptions to be considered:

1. Advanced School Placement

Players who are officially enrolled in a school grade above their designated age group due to early school enrollment or grade acceleration may be permitted to play with their school-year cohort through approval of both the Union FC Indy DOC and the player’s parents/guardians.

2. Impact Player Development Policy

The club recognizes that, in rare cases, a player’s developmental age may exceed their chronological age. These players demonstrate significantly advanced technical ability, tactical understanding, physical maturity, and overall game impact compared to peers in

their age group.

In these exceptional cases, a player may be invited by the DOC, in consultation with the age group coaches, to train with an older age group for a trial period, up to several weeks.

Following this evaluation period, a player may be deemed an “impact player” if they demonstrate the ability to perform within the top 20% of players on the older team. Impact player programming typically involves training and matches with an older team, while often, still participating in some training sessions and/or games with the player’s own age group. The exact balance will be determined based on what the club deems to be the most beneficial for the individual player’s development.

It is important to note that this policy is an exception , not the rule. It is up to the staff, and the staff only, to identify players who possess the technical ability, soccer intelligence, as well as the physical and emotional maturity required to succeed at an older age level.

The sole consideration in implementing this policy for any player is what best supports the individual player’s development. Decisions will not be influenced by team needs, competitive outcomes, prestige, or external pressure from parents or families.

Impact players’ development pathways are evaluated annually. Approval in one season does not guarantee placement in an older age group in future seasons, and prior team affiliation will not factor into future decisions.

Town Hall Meeting: Join the Conversation

To help families better understand the transition and ask questions directly, Union FC Indy will host an open town hall :

Club leadership will provide an overview of the new age group structure, followed by time for age group Directors of Coaching (DOCs) to address individual questions.

If you have immediate concerns before the town hall, you’re encouraged to reach out to your age group DOC.

For players beginning their developmental journey, these evaluations help place athletes in the right environment to grow. The Pathway program emphasizes learning, confidence, and fun while preparing players for future competitive opportunities.

Thursday, June 4

U5/U6 Evaluations (Futures)

Our youngest players get their moment to shine. Futures evaluations are designed to introduce kids to the game in a positive, encouraging setting. This is where many Union FC Indy journeys begin.

Monday & Tuesday, June 8–9

U11+ Tryouts (Sr Academy, Jr Travel, Sr Travel)

Older players looking to compete at higher levels will have the opportunity to earn their spot in one of our advanced programs. These sessions are designed to identify athletes ready for elevated training, competitive league play, and continued development within the Union FC Indy system.

Record Participation and Unforgettable Action

This year, we welcomed 250 teams from 6 states to the fields, transforming our complex into a vibrant hub of youth soccer. From the youngest players lacing up their boots for the first time to the highly competitive older age groups, every game was played with sportsmanship, grit, and skill. The sight of so many families and players enjoying the beautiful game is exactly why we host this annual event.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Community

Tournaments of this scale simply wouldn't be possible without the unwavering support of so many people. To every player who gave it their all on the pitch—your effort and enthusiasm were inspiring! Welcome Rachel Fulkerson to Union FC Indy

Union FC Indy is thrilled to welcome Rachel Fulkerson to our staff!

Rachel comes to us with an impressive background, most recently serving as Associate Head Coach at IU Indy. Her collegiate coaching experience and player development expertise make her a valuable addition to our club as we continue to grow both on and off the field.

This spring, Rachel is supporting our Advanced Technical Performance (ATP) Program, a key initiative for our Academy players designed to focus on the individual in the form of small-sided skills stations.

Looking ahead to next season, Rachel will take over coaching responsibilities for our 2010 Girls team. We’re confident she’ll be a phenomenal leader and mentor for these athletes, bringing a competitive edge and a deep understanding of the game.

In addition, Rachel will serve as College Recruiting Coordinator, a critical role for our players who are aspiring to compete at the collegiate level. With her firsthand knowledge of the recruiting landscape, she’ll guide players and families through the process—from exposure opportunities to communication strategies and everything in between.

ZYSA Selects Union FC Indy as New Name for its Travel Program

Zionsville Youth Soccer Association (ZYSA) is broadening its reach throughout central Indiana. Founded in 1979, ZYSA is rebranding its travel program (including Futures, Pathway and junior/senior Travel teams) to Union FC Indy — reflecting a commitment to serving communities and soccer players beyond its home base. The Club’s thriving Recreational program and popular fall Socctoberfest tournament will continue to operate as ZYSA.

The transition marks a significant milestone in the club’s journey, focusing on growth, connecting soccer communities, and the development of future soccer talent in Central Indiana. This change reflects our continued commitment to elevating the club’s competitiveness, expanding our reach, and solidifying our position as a premier destination for youth soccer development.

Timeline

This new re-brand only effects the travel program (Futures through Senior travel teams)

It will be in affect beginning June 2, at travel tryouts.

Process & Planning

This rebrand is the culmination of a full year of very thorough and thoughtful planning and input from key stakeholders, including Board members, staff, coaches, parents, players, marketing and design professionals and club supporters. Dozens of names, logos and colors were explored and reviewed. The new identity embraces a modern, forward-thinking vision, combining the Club’s rich history of nearly 50 years in Central Indiana with a renewed commitment to building a strong and competitive experience for players.

This isn’t just a name change; it’s a declaration of our ambition. Union FC Indy is poised to become a force in the Indiana soccer landscape. This rebrand allows us to:

Raise the Bar of Competition : We’re dedicated to fostering a more competitive environment for our players, enabling them to reach their full potential and compete at the highest levels.
Expand Our Footprint : Union FC Indy will broaden our geographic reach, attracting talented players from across the region at an earlier age and offering them unparalleled development opportunities.
Unlock New Opportunities : This rebrand opens doors to expand sponsorship opportunities beyond the Zionsville community, allowing us to invest further in our players, coaches and facilities.

Why Union FC Indy?

The name Union FC Indy embodies the principles of teamwork, development, and community collaboration—values that have always been central to the club's ethos. The word "Union" reflects the goal of creating a sense of togetherness among players, coaches, and families while building a stronger soccer culture in community. The new “FC” (Football Club) further solidifies the club’s professional approach to player development, with an emphasis on creating a positive and competitive environment.

Facility Addition - New Turf Field

The club has broken ground on a new state-of-the art turf field to be completed in early April.

The name “ Union FC Indy ” is a nod to our rich history. We pay homage to the club’s roots, harking back to its origins as “Eagle Union” in 1979. This connection to our past strengthens our foundation as we stride confidently into our future.
